How Tandem Skydiving Works
Tandem skydiving lets everyday people engage in the life-changing experience that is human flight! The way it works is genius, and we’re grateful to the brilliant pioneers who successfully engineered a “parachute for two” back in the 80s.
The Gear
It takes two to tandem – a highly-experienced tandem instructor and a novice student (you!). Your instructor wears a parachute built to carry up to a combined weight of 500 lbs. You wear a harness that attaches at four points to your instructor.
The Prep
You’ll attend a brief training session to learn exactly what’s ahead, and the role you’ll play during the jump. This includes how to exit at go time, the body position you’ll hold in freefall, what to expect under parachute, and how to prepare for landing.
The Jump
You and your instructor will exit the aircraft around 14,000 feet and immediately begin to freefall. After ~45 seconds, your instructor will deploy the parachute and you’ll enjoy about 5 minutes of peaceful flight before touching down, right where you started.
